re: Terrible pursuits

Spending money to feel more in control of my life, woo!* Jumped on the latest 'two free months of MUBI' offer and then decided to really indulge my pretentious cinephile bullshit by subbing to their semi-annual Notebook magazine, and then also bought a few old issues from the TIFF store so they wouldn't be lonely, and then grabbed the novelization of MaXXXine and a film journal just to hit the free shipping threshold and... poor decisions were made, I admit, but I don't really regret them so SHRUG.

Also got my ticket to Mystery Wrestling 18 for the day after All Out and a couple of Stratford shows for the day before, so all I need to do is book some plane tickets and my September trip will be all squared away with two months to spare! HYPE HYPE HYPPPPPPPPE

Hmm. It's only Tuesday. That's unfortunate.

re: History

It's Friday! Five-day work weeks still feel inordinately brief to me, but I'll be back before I know it because weekends are NOTHING. Sales is bombarding us with sold units that are somehow ALL to take priority, and 50% of my techs are gone until Wednesday (he's proposing to his girlfriend, aww). At least soon it won't be my problem for 48 hours!

Eddington tomorrow, then my mom and brother ditch town for a day so she can go get a mammogram because that's yet another thing she somehow can't have done within 400km of here.

I need to book my plane tickets for September, and make sure my time off request is amended as it's no longer for a Wednesday-Tuesday stretch. Mystery Wrestling tickets for the day after All Out go on sale Monday, so maybe I'll do it all while I'm back at work then.

Back to my highest weight ever and feeling bad! I went off my intermittent fasting kick when all this random upheaval started, so I guess it's time to get back on that, since it's the only thing I've ever found that works for me. Starting... tomorrow.

31. How Much Do You Know About History?

I'd say about 8.

re: Go-bags

Two updates in two days? What is the world coming to? Don't answer that question, I know it's nothing good!

It's Thursday! I have purchased new t-shirts (but not the expensive trenchcoat), and am drowning in used vehicles. The company wants us to have a five-day average turnaround from opening to closing work orders, which seems patently impossible with the sheer volume of units we receive and the fact that I only have two dedicated technicians, but oh well! Look at this insanely cool website which comprehensively documents the movesets of every single wrestler in AEW via gifs!!!

Overcast at the moment, but it's supposed to be nice and hot this afternoon. Finally. I'll have to make some time to go read outside after work. And then finally finish season 1 of Arcane, maybe? And then keep obsessing over All In for a while. Naturally!

The building I work in being very difficult to find is very good for reducing my urge to constantly order delivery burritos. But is it enough???

30. What Would You Put in Your Emergency ‘Go-Bag’?

You'd think I'd have thought about this more after that time I went to work one day and didn't get to come home for a month, but idk, as long as I've got my phone, wallet, and a charger, I can get by. With time to react, I'd probably throw my journals into a backpack with some clothes, but I don't have anything specific prepared. Now that I'm better about keeping a cloud backpack of ALL my various hard drives (that last external death killed me, I STILL haven't found another copy of Baka Gaijin + Friends Vol. 6, sob), those are less of a concern than they used to be.

re: Panhandling

Still busy with work, but slowly carving back my sense of self. There was a barbecue over at sales today! Hot dogs make all the annoying emails go down easier.

Saw Together on Monday and our theatre is getting Eddington this weekend (I wasn't sure if we would), so I'm set on the culture front until Fantastic Four (also still riding high from Superman and The Godfather, it's been a good cinemonth!). Still thinking obsessively about various parts of All In Texas (currently: the camera waiting by the heel entrance for Hangman only to have to rapidly pan over when he finally comes out of the good boy hole instead).

Have juuuuust enough free time between work orders to do some windows shopping. I missed the PPV merch sale, so I really shouldn't buy more wrestling t-shirts, particularly one I already own a version of, but A) I can actually wear them at work now!, B) SNAKESKIN PRINT. I've also got a very expensive trench coat open in another tab that I will probably not pull the trigger on, but hnnnng look at all those pockets. I got my first cheque of being salaried the other night, and I'm guessing it was just way higher than usual with my training week on there, too, because it was fully more than twice what I would have made in my old position and I think it's going to my head a little bit. Gotta wait until the end of the month to know how much more I'll actually have to play with on the regular.

Just a couple more hours until I can go home, make noodles, and watch this video of all the best entrances from Y'all In! Ecstasy of Gold almost made me cry when they played it at the pops orchestra concert my mom and I went to a few months back, so this is long-term storytelling, here.

Also, the Internet Archive uploaded a whole bunch of old Canadian fanzines, which rules a whole lot, actually.

Sure, if they want to.

THIS WEEKLY COLOSSEUM OF GAY VIOLENCE (07.11.2025 - 07.12.2025)

No clue if I'll be able to wrangle a proper wrestlepost amidst the rigours of my new job, but I owe it to the TWENTY FUCKING HOURS of graps that I watched last week to at least try. What a crazy weekend!! Y'all In is in the can, and it was an amazing, occasionally devastating but ultimately triumphant and bloody affair, and I loved every overlong minute of it, so I will post through it as best I can in between the emails from sales and WHMIS certification that I apparently have to get today.

(no subject)

In Dublin for now. There's a summer school thing I'm going to for the next two weeks to learn Old Irish, or at least make the attempt. I left Aber this morning in some confusion about whether there was a train (Nat Rail and TFW apps both showed no train, but it turns out there was, in fact, a train). Changed at Shrewsbury, where the new train was 1) delayed and 2) chockablock - in only two carriages there were two hen dos, a stag party and a large number of people going to Chester for the races. While it cleared out a bit after Chester, there was no AC to be had, so to prevent anyone getting ill, they passed out water (which was nice of them)!

Getting to the ferry itself actually went quite quickly once we got to Holyhead (15 min or so late, but whatever), and after that journey I quite cheerfully paid to upgrade to the 'hygge lounge', which is a quiet lounge with big recliner chairs and a great view. No regrets about that at all.

Arrived at Dublin port, phone decided it wasn't going to work yet, but employees there will book you a taxi. (Would this journey, clocking in at 10.5 hours at that point, be improved by an hour on public transit with luggage? It would not.) Anyway, we got stuck at an intersection when the car in front of us broke down.

But I have arrived! Felt like it was such a pretty night I should go out and explore and walk a bit, but am also very, very tired, and going to Spar for a sandwich to eat in front of the tv in my AIR CONDITIONED hotel room won out, in the end. Anyway, hi Dublin, looking good.

I should post more and maybe talk about stuff, but I'm lazy. Anyway, hi.

re: Perfectionism

I guess I will write a notepad entry while I wait to be able to do my job again?? Last night we had one of the craziest storms I've ever been in; the trailer was straight up shaking from the force of the thunder alone for about half an hour at its worst. The power only went out once, and just for an instant (long enough to be annoying because while my computer did not turn back on on its own, my bedroom lights decided to for some reason?? I WAS TRYING TO SLEEP), but whatever happened clearly hit the dealership, too, because we have been without internet all day.

I literally can do no part of my new job without the internet!! At least the techs have work to keep them busy (although from what I'm hearing through the door, they're mostly just playing around with their personal vehicles right now), but sales is going to be completely up my ass about all of their pressing concerns that I can't do shit about just yet.

So I've mostly just been reading Emily Climbs outside in the sun for the last few hours and trying not to think about how much shit is piling up in my inbox on the other side of this! The bodyshop gave us chocolate bars, which was nice. I'm thinking about ordering a burrito the instant Mucho opens for delivery, as long as they still have the special red ghost pepper burritos (since they still don't have shrimp on the menu anymore and I REFUSE to frequent them without extra good cause as a result). The only issue with that is that I haven't tried ordering food here before, and I feel like the building is going to be really difficult for drivers to locate. Maybe I'll just stand outside and wave my arms when they get close. Or just tell them to deliver it to the bodyshop, because GOD KNOWS I get a ton of people just strolling into my office thinking the big unmarked building they've wandered into must be that. I don't even know what my address is!!

Finally going to the movies tonight, after more than a weeklong break (but we saw like four the week before last, so it balances out). The Godfather! My mom's never seen it before! Exciting!

The burrito has been ordered. My fate is in god's hands now.

God's name is Harshdeep today.

Anyway, I wrote all of that yesterday morning, and then when I finally got some scraps of internet in the afternoon, I forgot to post it because holy shit so much to do, so enjoy this MISSIVE FROM THE DISTANT PAST. Doing better today. My goals today are to stay on top of my inbox, figure out exactly what is happening with all thirty-something vehicles under my purview, and draw up a chart for the upcoming G1 Climax tournament. The Godfather was fucking sick on the big screen. Let's go!!!

28. Are You a Perfectionist?

I try to be. Real life gets in the way most of the time, though.
