2012 in review

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Celebrated 20 years of marriage

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make them

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope, but coworker is now pregnant!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Too many of my kids' peers died this year. Rest in peace Matt, JehVonte, and Ethan.

5. What countries did you visit?
The same as always - spent days, weeks, months in England and Ireland, but my actual feet never left the US.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A lot of the self-esteem I seem to have bled off over the course of the last few years.

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Tie:
June 15 - watching DJ graduate high school
November 16 - Twilight Marathon/BD2 with [personal profile] rainpuddle13 (because I will focus on the good...not the tragic.)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Release from data entry hell...even though I was scared to death at the time and reconnecting with my brother.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Falling into the same trap over and over again

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I didn't, but my son had a pretty horrific arm break during indoor soccer

11. What was the best thing you bought?
20th Anniversary MacBook Pro/Kindle Fire HD

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My kids. They're both finding their own ways in life - youngest through high school, oldest through the transition zone from kid to adult. They're making mistakes, screwing up as much as they get right, but they're remaining the fine young men I raised them to be.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
A very dedicated group that during September-November let passion rule their fingers. And that's probably the nicest way I can say it. And the hatred and venom spewed by the nonnies.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Kids, living expenses that shot through the roof this year

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Twilight Marathon/Breaking Dawn. The lead up, the experience, the movie itself.

16. What song(s) will always remind you of 2012
A Thousand Years, Christina Perri - because it was the perfect song to wrap the Twilight series
Call Me Maybe - as lip-dubbed by the US Swim Team.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

I. happier or sadder? About the same
II. richer or poorer? Poorer - and that's only going to get worse when the 1/1 tax increases hit (unrelated to any cliff jumping)
III. fatter or thinner? I am 20 pounds lighter. Thank you, Dr. R.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Smiling, reading, project completion, accepting reality

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Become mired in foolish optimism and dropping deeper into Einstein's definition of insanity

20. How will you be spending the holidays?
Quiet times. We spent Christmas Day in our pajamas since it was just the four of us.

21. How will you be spending New Year's?
New Years Eve I will probably be working until 8-9pm since we have a dozen things that need to go live on 1/1 and can't start posting until 5pm on the 31st - then it'll be home to emailing with my BFF and possible game tags

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
Only with books

23. How many one-night stands?
I read a few of those books in one night, does that count?

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Person of Interest/Criminal Minds/Alaska State Troopers

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not really. The same person still makes my blood boil, but I don't really 'hate' anyone. Maybe the special snowflakes in MarComm.

26. What was the best book you read?
Year in Review

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
A bit late to the party, I discovered a great love for Florence+The Machine

A new job where I can do well, learn more, and excel.

A new president

I turned 44, got my Kindle Fire, and went to my favorite Japanese steakhouse

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Nothing, really. I would have liked it if I spent less time feeling like a ghost/human welcome mat, but that's on me.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
"Oh my God, I have to roll the waistband of these pants or they'll fall down." Also, my new love, J. Jill.

34. What kept you sane?
Getting lost in books.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Tom Sturridge, Cam Stewart, Rob and Kris

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Which ones didn't? I was more vocal this year than I've ever been and even then, I held my tongue a lot of the time...because the few times I didn't, I got jumped.

37. Whom did you miss?
Shelly. I found myself missing her a lot this year, still not sure why.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Matt, Holly, Kim, Mary, Kevin, Marcus, Gina, Lauren, Nicole, and Patty - my coworkers/bosses in my new department. They took a chance on sketchily proven skills, appreciated my honesty in my interview where I said "no, I don't know how to do that, but I learn fast," and rescued me from hell. For giving me that chance to prove former boss and HR that a resume does not a skillset make, I will bust my ass for them as often as needed.

Just keep swimming

I always like reading this year in review posts. I hope you get your Host fandom. It's always nice to have others to actively squee with. I also loved how you worded #18 project completion and I'm totally stealing that for my own review.
