So many feelings this weekend I don't know what to do with.

This week/weekend was the last HP con, Ascendio. I've been a part of that family since the inception, when the idea was nothing more than a whispered "hey, what if we..." idea bouncing around. I started as a volunteer, running the Help Desk and even though I had to abandon that post because I couldn't keep up with it, and two small children, I resolved to help out again when my home life settled. And I did, culminating in my finally getting my Chair badge when I worked Logistics for Infinitus.

I still have all of my lanyards, still covered in pins, hanging in my bedroom closet. I try not to think about the fact that I'll never wear them again. Never loop them onto my carryon bag as a sign to all where I'm going.

It's been hard to see the posts, tweets, etc. with everyone there but it sounds like everyone had a blast and that's the most important thing!

However, it got me thinking over past cons - or, in some cases, more of an exercise of how long the human body can go without sleep and still function (hee!) I also run the risk of turning into That Old Person who grumbles to shit and back about "the way things used to be." And I think that might be why I shifted from volunteer attendee to all-out worker bee - because the focus of the cons shifted to a direction that didn't rev my engines as much, but the people, my con family, always did.

I'm also strangely glad to not be there today. Because I know I'd be a freaking mess of tears. So for everyone packing out at the Portofino, and closing shop on an amazing ten years, you have all my virtual hugs and snuggles.

:) I still remember meeting you for the first time for Nimbus, at the Orlando airport as I was trying to find the shuttle meet-up point and you yelled my name once you saw me and gave me a running tackle-glomp, aided with the momentum as you were carrying your laptop bag. :D Can't believe it at times that it's been 10 years since knowing you and others! ♥ ♥ ♥

Aww, it's so sad to think about, isn't it? End of an era. I never made it to any of them as they were always very far away, but I would have liked to go to Ascendio if I could have.

Cliche though it is, lots of good memories, right? (And I'd just wear the damn lanyards anyway if I wanted. *g*)

I'm so sad that they are over because I missed so many of them due to financial issues and that's the same reason I missed this one, too. I thought I'd get my crap together in ten years but no! I'm beginning to suspect I'll never have my crap together. :)

Yeah, it really is. I'm kind of glad in a way that Infinitus was my last because it was so perfect. Perfect beginning, stressful middle, and brilliant ending.

I like looking at them on the wall - each one holds so many memories.

I wish I'd been able to go to more of them, but I think it's not too bad I only missed Prophecy, Azkatraz, and Ascendio.

I'm glad I got to see you at Infinitus, though! Even though I was usually running from one place to another.

And one of these years, there needs to be a quiet meet-up. Not a convention or a thing where people are trying to get to an IMAX in NYC but something... peaceful.

I went to Comic-Con on Sunday for the Harry Potter panel. One of the audience members asked for our favorite or defining moments in fandom... So many con memories came to mind! Like Heidi meeting everyone in person at Nimbus and hugging everyone and crying. Or the FA party with Nancy DJing.
