So let me get this straight:

There was a second George Michael song, a performance by Muse, and a performance by the Royal Ballet...all of which were CUT OUT of the primetime broadcast.

And now, rather than watching The Who...we're getting a "special preview" aka commercial for a sitcom? One that looks like it wants to be Scrubs for Dogs but is really just...lame.

Wow.

I didn't think their coverage could get any worse.

I was apparently dead effign wrong.

I watched two minutes of the sitcom and turned it off, disgusted. I'll catch the rest of the performances on YouTube.

I watched 7 minutes of that show and quit because it has two of my least favorite things in the world:

Blatant sexism as humor and capuchin monkeys.

I just realized something...

Once upon a time I used to think the opening and closing ceremonies were my favorite parts of the Olympics. Much like halftime at the Superbowl.

Now I kind of actually want to see the sports, and when I think "oh I could go online and see that" about the opening and closing ceremonies, it's followed by "nah, I'd rather watch more..." of taekwondo or rhythmic gymnastics or swimming or running or something else that's personal for me in some way.

And that comedy? Every commercial that I saw for it made me NOT want to watch it. Even though it has Tyler Labine in it, who I generally adore. No way am I going near it.

I'd rather watch ANYTHING more than two talking heads or half an hour of someone's road to the Olympics. Or, worse yet, half an hour of PAST olympics.

You did NOT miss anything with George's 2nd song - it was mimed and it was from his NEW record, so blatant plugging.

YMMV: Muse were their usual bland selves.

Ballet was AWESOME, and I can't believe Darcey Bussell is 43.

Missing the Who - you did miss out there. Roger was in FANTASTIC voice.

I don't care if they all lip-synched or hit wrong notes or picked their fucking noses - what I care about is that it was edited to shit like that...for a fucking sitcom and a fuckload of retrospectives from Ryan Seacrest.

I want to watch the closing ceremonies, not what NBC *thinks* I want to watch.
